Auditory Steady State Response

ASSR is an auditory evoked potential, elicited with modulated tones, that can be used to predict hearing sensitivity in patients of all ages, but has specific relevance to infants and young children & difficult-to-test patients.
  • It is immune to subject state.
  • It is frequency specific, therefore predicting a more precise audiogram.
  • It estimates the range of hearing loss with more sensitivity.
  • Responses to frequencies 500, 1000, 2000 and 4000Hz in both the ears can be collected faster simultaneously.
  • 8 frequencies tested all at the same time. Reduces test time, up to 3 times faster.

Brainstem Evoked Response Audiometry

BERA is recording of neural responses to click stimuli with the help of various disc electrodes placed on the forehead, scalp & mastoids. Any newborn, infant or difficult to test patient can be evaluated. This test is done under natural sleep & is non-invasive. Sedation would be required only in case of hyperactive children. BERA helps to evaluate the hearing sensitivity of the newborn without active participation on their part. The responses in terms of neural waves can tell one about the hearing sensitivity as well as give a picture about the central auditory system in case of adults.

Impedance Audiometry

Computerized impedance testing to identify / rule out any middle ear pathologies.

Oto Acoustic Emissions

OAE are sounds generated within the normal cochlea either spontaneously or in response to sound stimulus. Two most widely used OAE measurements for clinical utility are:
  • Transient evoked otoacoustic emissions (TEOAE) &
  • Distortion product otoacoustic emissions (DPOAE).
  • Clinically OAE is a noninvasive method. It can be measured using a simple probe assembly, inserted in the ear canal the response of which is recorded by the computer. Stimulus used for TEOAE & DPOAE is click & pure tone respectively. Sedation is not required unless the child is too hyperactive & refuses to sit in one place. The main advantage of this procedure Is that it can be recorded on a newborn baby also. OAE measurement helps to screen high-risk infants & neonates and helps assert the presence or absence of cochlear dysfunction

CUSTOM EAR MOLDS

Ear canals are like finger prints; no two are alike. Custom ear products fit the exact shape and size of your unique ear canal and thus require a special "impression" to be made. These impressions are commonly referred to as ear molds. Ear molds are used to create custom hearing aids, molds for BTE style hearing aids, in-ear monitors, swim plugs, and various forms of custom hearing care.

Real Ear Probe Microphone Measurement

It permits precise measurement of amplification characteristics of the hearing aid from within the patient's ear canal. REM helps to verify the appropriate gain, output & also the features of the hearing aid. Digital hearing aids tend to have more features & hence probe mic testing is more important. Also, it helps to validate & verify the specific advantage provided by the hearing aid. In case of infants & children, REM becomes must as it allows us to find whether according to the audiogram, appropriate amplification is being given or not.
