Brainstem Evoked Response Audiometry -
BERA is recording of neural responses to click stimuli with the help of various disc electrodes placed on the forehead, scalp & mastoids. Any newborn, infant or difficult to test patient can be evaluated. This test is done under natural sleep & is non-invasive. Sedation would be required only in case of hyperactive children. BERA helps to evaluate the hearing sensitivity of the newborn without active participation on their part. Real Ear Probe Microphone Measurement -
It permits precise measurement of amplification characteristics of the hearing aid from within the patient's ear canal. REM helps to verify the appropriate gain, output & also the features of the hearing aid. Digital hearing aids tend to have more features & hence probe mic testing is more important. Also, it helps to validate & verify the specific advantage provided by the hearing aid.
